We heat and store your hot water with the sun — day and night.
A hot water system that is simple to install, runs silently, has no moving parts and no pumps — and needs no water plumbed on or through your roof.
The system’s intelligent design and dedicated solar PV array is the only system that can provide the average 4-person household its hot water expense at a net zero cost over an average 12-month period.
MinSolar · Solatherm PV Direct
How PV Direct works
Power goes from the panels straight into the element. That's the whole system — which is why there is so little to go wrong.
Dedicated PV array
Its own solar panels sit on the roof — panels only. No water, no pipes, nothing to leak.
DC straight to the element
The power runs directly into the heating element. No pump, no compressor, no inverter in between.
Heat is stored in the tank
Accurate temperature control heats and holds the water through the day, ready for the evening and the morning.
Hot water, day and night
An independent 24-hour AC boost sits behind it, so a run of grey days never leaves you short.
Once the water is hot, the DC power can be switched to an inverter for use in the household, to a battery system, or to another DC appliance — so the array keeps earning its keep for the rest of the day.

Can operate independently of grid power, which suits off-grid and rural sites.
No moving parts
The latest technology with nothing to pump, spin or wear out over time.
No roof plumbing
No expensive water plumbing on or through the roof — panels only.
No freezing issues
No frost damage risk in frost-prone areas, because there is no water on the roof.
24-hour AC boost backup
An independent backup element so you are never left without hot water.
Fits confined spaces
Installs indoors or outdoors where a heat pump or gas unit simply will not fit.
Accurate temperature control
Precise regulation, so the tank is not overheating and wasting energy.
Quick-connect installation
Dual-handed cylinder with quick-connect plumbing and electrical for flexible layouts.
Low maintenance costs
Little to service and little to fail keeps the running cost down year after year.
Strong in cold, clear weather
Performs well in cold climates as long as the sky is clear — it runs on light, not heat.
Common questions
What happens on a cloudy day?
The tank stores the heat it made earlier, and an independent 24-hour AC boost sits behind the system for longer grey runs. You are not relying on the weather to get a hot shower.
Is this the same as solar hot water on the roof?
No. Traditional solar hot water pumps water up to roof-mounted collectors. PV Direct puts solar panels on the roof and sends the electricity down to the element — so there is no water on your roof, no pumps, and no frost risk up there.
Will it work in a cold climate?
Yes. It runs on light rather than ambient heat, so it performs well in cold conditions as long as the sky is clear. There are also no freezing issues in frost-prone areas.
Where can it be installed?
Indoors or outdoors, including confined spaces where a heat pump or gas unit will not fit. The dual-handed cylinder with quick-connect plumbing and electrical gives real flexibility in how it is laid out.
What happens once the water is already hot?
Nothing is wasted. The DC power can be switched across to an inverter for the household, to a battery system, or to another DC appliance, so the array keeps working for the rest of the day.
Can it run completely off-grid?
It can operate independently of the grid, which makes it well suited to off-grid and rural properties. Tell us about your site and we will confirm what your setup needs.
