Hot water made by day, stored for the night.
An air-source heat pump that runs on DC power straight from solar panels — or from grid and battery AC when you want it to. It heats through the day and shuts off at night.
The world’s first purely solar, off grid / on grid hot water system.
Manufacturer claim · Solar ACDC
It moves heat, it doesn't make it
That is the whole reason a heat pump uses so little power — and why it can run on a modest amount of solar.
DC power in
The unit takes DC power directly from solar panels, so it can operate without any AC power at all. Grid or battery AC is an option, not a requirement.
Air-source heat pump
It pulls heat out of the surrounding air and moves it into the water, rather than burning energy to create heat from scratch.
270 litres, stored
Water is heated and held at up to 70°C through the day, so there is a full tank waiting when the household needs it.
Delivered safely
Tempering valves bring it down to a maximum 50°C at the tap — stored hot enough to be safe, delivered cool enough to be safe.
It heats while the sun is up
The system does its work through daylight hours and shuts off at night — which is exactly when your solar is free and your grid power is not.
2.4 kW element when you need it
A top-mounted AC backup element is built in, so a run of grey days or an unusually heavy week never leaves the household short.
Built to Australian Standards
Hot water is one of the few things in a house that can genuinely hurt someone. Here is what is built in.
Adjustable thermostat
Set between a 60°C minimum and an 80°C maximum, so the tank is always held in a safe, compliant band.
PTR valve
A pressure and temperature relief valve, so the tank can never build pressure or temperature beyond its safe limit.
Over-temperature cut-out
An independent cut-out that shuts the system down if anything pushes the tank past its designed temperature.
Tempering valves
Water is stored hot but delivered at a maximum of 50°C, which is the temperature that actually reaches the tap.
Anti-legionella compliant
Holding the tank at a 60°C minimum meets the regulations written specifically to keep legionella out of stored water.
Meets Australian Standards
The system is built to comply with the relevant Australian Standards for stored hot water.
These two numbers work together. The tank has to sit at 60°C or above to keep legionella out of the stored water, but 60°C at a tap would scald. Tempering valves bridge the gap, bringing delivery down to a maximum of 50°C.
Common questions
Does it work at night?
It heats during the day and shuts off at night — which is the point. The 270 litre tank holds what it made while the sun was up, so there is hot water waiting for the evening and the morning.
Do I need a grid connection?
No. The unit can run on DC power straight from solar panels and operate without AC power at all. It will also run from grid or battery AC if you would rather it did — which is why it is described as off grid / on grid.
Is 270 litres enough for my household?
For a lot of homes, yes — but it depends on how many people, how many bathrooms and when everyone showers. That is part of what the free energy review works out, rather than guessing from the number of bedrooms.
What happens after a week of grey weather?
A 2.4 kW top-mounted AC backup element is built in. It covers the gap so the household is never left without hot water, and it only draws power when it is actually needed.
How hot does the water get, and is that safe?
The tank stores at up to 70°C, with the thermostat adjustable between 60°C and 80°C. Tempering valves bring delivery down to a maximum of 50°C at the tap. Storing above 60°C is what keeps legionella out of the stored water.
How is this different from PV Direct hot water?
Both run on DC straight from the panels and neither puts water on your roof. The heat pump moves heat out of the air into the water and has a compressor; PV Direct sends the power into an element with no moving parts at all. We will talk you through which suits your place.
